Representative Erik Paulsen (R-MN-3) visited PLASTICS member Steinwall Inc., a custom thermoplastic injection molder, in Coon Rapids, Minnesota on March 13. Rep. Paulsen is serving in his fifth term in Congress and sits on the House Ways and Means Committee. The committee has jurisdiction over a wide range of issues including setting tax and trade policy for the country. Both issues promise to play prominently this Congress. Rep. Paulsen has been the major advocate for the repeal of the medical device tax as well as other issues important to the plastics industry.

Rep. Paulsen first met with Maureen Steinwall, Ph.D. and Tom Smolenski and discussed a wide range of topics including workforce development, trade, tax and healthcare reforms. Following the discussion Dr. Steinwall took the representative on a tour of the 100,000 square-foot facility. On the shop floor, the representative was able to learn about the plastics manufacturing process and met many of the 150 employees and heard some of their thoughts on the current issues of the day.
